New Zombie face

It's been quite a long time since I have made any digital art, but the opportunity came up so I just got finished with a new "zombie portrait". This one is of artist Jacqueline Gallagher. She is an amazing artist, and I only hope this zombie pic is good enough.

I was a bit rusty since I haven't done one of these in a long time, but I am happy with the way it came out. Kind of looks like someone stumbled upon a zombie somewhere and then snagged quick snapshot.

Anyway, check out her work here: http://tonicacat.carbonmade.com/

Half Blood Prince

Ok, I confess, I am a Harry Potter nerd. But, I am an angry one. I am angry because these movies were not out when I was a kid, they would have been my Star Wars if you will. So when I watch these flicks now, they are my mid-life crisis. I am 31 years old, and coming close on 32 (by the way I sunk my head in shame when I typed that). So instead on buying a Porsche, or getting hair plugs (I have still have my full mane thank you), I watch Harry Potter movies.

is it as sad as a Porsche? I don't know. I will tell you, I don't own any memorabilia from the movie, so no wands, no time turners or scarfs. I just have the dvd's, sitting nice and pretty in my dvd trunk next to Dawn of the Dead and City of Lost Children.

So, the point is, the new Harry Potter trailer is out, and I am stoked. Partly because the city I live in is supremely boring, but I also dig the the "Half Blood Prince" book. Oh, I never read it, I have the audio books on my mp3 player. Lazy, yes I know.

So when you see me walking into the theater, if you do, please be easy on me. For your not laughing at a 31 year old man but a kid who never really got to enjoy going to the theater and sit in awe at a story that allows you to forget how dull life can be.

So for all the nerds, here you go. The previews:

QUICKTIME HD - 1080, 720, 480

QUICKTIME STANDARD - Large, Medium, Small, Standard TV

WINDOWS HD - 1080, 720

Dark Knight

Well, I finally made it out to see the new Batman movie. I was pretty skeptical going in, not because I didn't think it would be good. I was happy with the change from katie holmes to Maggie Gyllenhaal, and they kept Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman of course. I was actually pretty skeptical of Heath Ledger.

Nicholson is such an amazing actor, and he did do a good job with the Joker. But like my buddy Tony said, and I know agree, Heath is by far the best Joker. He played crazy very well, and added that touch of evil that other Jokers left out. It's sad to think that Hollywood will replace him, and you know they will. Not like they make great decisions over there. Take for example The Crow, Brandon Lee dies during the filming and instead of just letting it be, they make 2&3 which sucked. Just let the Joker fade away, and be referenced in the next movie, don't sully the performance in an effort to make more money.

chuckleheads.

I can breathe

Well we're all settled in the new house. The area is amazing. Right outside my window is nature, and the town is small enough that you can ride your bike anywhere. One of the things that disappointed me when we first moved was my breathing.

When i was a kid I had mild asthma, nothing to worry about at all. I was so active and lived in Arizona so I never was really bothered by it. Even when we lived in the Stanislaus area, known for bad quality air, it didn't really bother me until my late 20's after I had been smoking for a few years. My breathing degraded quickly, and it got to the point that 50 year old portly lawyers were walking up the stairs faster than I. It's been around 5 years since I have smoked, but I have also been run through the gamut of asthma meds which don't cure at all they just address the symptoms. So I finally got tired of all this, and tried to figure out what was causing all of this. I believe that when your sick, your body is trying to tell you something.

So I tried cutting out certain foods, 2 weeks at a time, and first was dairy. No less than 3 days later could I breathe better. Dairy makes it harder to expel mucous. But it was quickly that I realized how many foods I could not eat now that I cut dairy out. So for weeks I ate greens and fruits. And my breathing became better and better. I learned that many asthmatics are deficient in magnesium, and wouldn't you know leafy greens are high in magnesium.

So now in Sonoma I am back to breathing better than ever. I take a daily multi-vitamin, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruit and leafy greens and veggies like crazy, and cool in only olive oil. No red meat, no dairy, no soft drinks, no fast food. I feel better than ever, and what is the side-effect of this diet? Health. I am healthier than ever, I dropped 7 pounds, can breathe better than any doctor will admit and i am more positive about life.

It's not like I stumbled onto anything new here. We have been told our whole life what a good diet is like, and what is bad for us. My grandmother, 89 some odd years old, has owned a farm for years and eats more fruits and veggies than anyone I know. I also don't think I have ever seen a more healthier person that is the age of my grandmother. So I basically stumbled upon something my grandmother has always known. This seems to be the problem of our era. Not opening our eyes and seeing what our elders have always known. Newer is not always better.

I feel great knowing that my doctor is not going to get any more prescriptions into my life.

Moving

Well, I'll be going to Sonoma State University this Fall. I like the area better, and we have a cool little house all set up there. The whole city is small, but this will give me the quiet that I need to really concentrate on my art, and eventually some electronic music again.

I can always visit San Francisco, as it is only 50 miles away. That isn't too bad. So I can still see some shows, visit some friends and not have to actually live in the city.

Since the new house will be super small, the idea of storing art from shows I curate will have to change a bit. I won't have a spare room to just store all the work, like I do right now. But, this doesn't seem to be much of a problem as I can't get in touch with any galleries to curate another show anyway. So, problem solved.

I would like to be concentrating on my art for a bit anyway, I will always keep up with the Creep Machine site, but I do need to work on my own stuff as well.

SFSU or Sonoma State

Well, I've been accepted to San Francisco State University as well as Sonoma State. Both are pretty good schools, I just have to weigh the pros and cons and see which one would be best.

San Francisco is expensive, crowded & not the best place to be in the middle of a zombie outbreak. But the art scene is amazing, there is many fun things to do and I have friends there.

Sonoma is less expensive, only 45k people living around the college, and is a green beautiful area. But the art scene is not there, there is not much to do there, and the college is very small. So I might not meet people to collaborate with.

I'm not sure what to do really, both have equal pros and cons. As far as curating shows go, I can travel for that. It might also be more enjoyable to have some living space, instead of the smaller apt I'll be staying in San Francisco. Not sure what to do.

Stella im Hultberg, David Choquette and french fries.

We went to San Francisco, to see the solo show of Stella Im Hultberg as well as to the pick up a painting for the B Movie show from David Choquette. He was vacationing in San Francisco and it was a great opportunity to get the work, and to meet him in person.

I also met Monica Choy at the show as well, it's great to meet people that you have only talked to through e-mail. I hope she shows up for the B movie show. She is also curating a show pretty soon.
I wanted to take a huge amount of pics of the Stella show, but to be honest we kind of spent the night hanging out with David Choquette. Not only is he an amazing painter, but a tattoo artist and overall blast to hang out with. We checked out the group show at the Space Gallery, talked about his influences, and went to Mel's for some drinks and french fries.

His painting for the show is the "Popcorn" clown from Killer Klowns From Outer Space and it looks amazing, he really did a killer job. I wish I was able to buy a bunch of work from the show, but no luck this time. I hope someone who loves the movie ends up with his painting.
